Latin remains a cornerstone of Western intellectual history, serving as the language of Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil, among others. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Latin served as the common language of diplomacy, science and scholarship in Europe until the 18th Century. By learning Latin, individuals can engage with a rich tapestry of global heritage and better understand the interconnectedness of human societies throughout history.
Participants will delve into the essentials of Classical Latin, gaining proficiency in key verbs, nouns, and adjectives through captivating narratives detailing the fortunes of Lucius Caecilius Iucundus, his wife Metella and their household shortly before the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. Join us as we embark on a journey that bridges the ancient past with contemporary language, culture and the human experience.
