Something Unique
When Sarah was 18 she studied Chinese in Beijing for nine months in 1992-93. There, she had the opportunity to travel across the country third class (hard sleeper) on a train from Beijing to Kunming – 67 hours each way! She spent three days sitting on someone else’s bottom bunk, speaking rudimentary Chinese, shelling peanuts, and looking out at the passing mountains, farms, and cities. Sarah hasn’t been back to China in 16 years, and doubts she’d recognise the place now!
