Michelle Ker
Michelle Ker has been teaching life drawing and fashion illustration at the University of Technology Sydney since 1999. She has recently returned to teaching life drawing and fashion illustration at Sydney Community College – a role she previously carried out for five years before taking a well-deserved break.
Michelle has spent 15 years self-employed as a freelance illustrator in a variety of areas, from children’s books, to editorial illustration (magazines) and fashion illustration. She’s worked with magazines such as Notebook, Cleo, Cosmopolitan and Girlfriend, and with prominent designers such as Jill Fitzsimon and Ewaldo Boch.
Michelle has successfully run her own business for 15 years, and has a large number of children’s books to her credit, including the Trend fiction serioes for Penguin Publications. Michelle also has an impressive portfolio of published work. She’s proud of her numerous solo and group exhibitions of portraits, including an exhibition at the Royal Easter Show. Michelle runs her classes much like a practical studio, with a combination of demonstrations, discussion, interaction and one-on-one guidance. She focuses on demonstrating a wide range of skills and techniques, and on identifying and strengthening her students' confidence and talents, promoting originality where possible.
