Purpose
Purpose
This policy outlines the approach of Sydney Community College (the College) in accommodating participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and their carers in our courses and programmes. The policy ensures that the College provides accessible and inclusive education opportunities while recognising the unique payment arrangements and support needs of NDIS participants.
Scope
This policy applies to all courses and programs offered by Sydney Community College and is relevant to NDIS participants, their plan managers, and carers.
Policy Statement
NDIS Participant Enrolment
NDIS participants are welcome to enrol in any course or program offered by the College.
Participants are required to provide relevant details of their NDIS plan, including the contact information of their plan manager, at the time of enrolment.
The College will liaise with the participant's plan manager to facilitate payment for the course, in line with the participant's NDIS plan and funding provisions.
Payment Arrangements
The College recognises that payment for courses may be managed by the participant’s plan manager or directly through the participant’s NDIS plan.
- Upon enrolment, the participant or their representative must provide the necessary documentation and approval from the plan manager to process payment.
- Payment arrangements must be finalised before the commencement of the course. If there are delays or issues with payment, the College will work with the plan manager to resolve these issues promptly.
Attendance of Carers
The College acknowledges the important role of carers in supporting NDIS participants.
* Carers are allowed to attend classes alongside the NDIS participant at no additional cost, provided their attendance is necessary to support the participant’s learning experience.The presence of the carer must be agreed upon at the time of enrolment, and the carer must adhere to the same code of conduct and safety requirements as all other students.Carers are not eligible to actively participate in the course unless they are enrolled separately and have paid the corresponding fees.Accessibility and Inclusion
- The College is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive learning environment for all students, including those with disabilities.
- Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate the needs of NDIS participants in accordance with their individual learning plans and goals.
- Participants are encouraged to discuss any specific requirements with the College at the time of enrolment to ensure appropriate arrangements are made.
Review and Communication
This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with NDIS guidelines and best practices.The policy will be communicated to all relevant staff, NDIS participants, and their carers upon enrolment.
Responsibilities
The College administration is responsible for ensuring that NDIS participants and their carers are supported according to this policy.
The College will maintain open communication with plan managers and participants to facilitate smooth enrolment and payment processes.
Policy Review Date
This policy will be reviewed annually or as needed to reflect any changes in the NDIS or College procedures.
This policy aims to balance the needs of NDIS participants and their carers with the operational requirements of the College. If there are specific requirements or additional considerations, adjustments can be made accordingly.
