  • Create your own brushes.
  • Create,edit and organise Brush Sets Folders.
  • Acquire the skills to download and use commercial brushes, stamps, and papers from the internet. 
  • Enhance your colour adjustment skills through various techniques.
  • Discover the methods of creating artwork with transparent backgrounds.
  • Achieve the styles of gouache, watercolour paintings and lino cut prints using advanced techniques and a variety of brushes.
  • Master the technique of removing backgrounds from imported images.
  • Familiarise yourself with the text options in Procreate and utilise them in creative ways.
  • Use the Perspective Grid tool.

Session 1: Preparation for Digital Fine Art

  • Explore three methods to create custom textured canvases including blend mode techniques
  • Learn how to create your own brushes
  • Discover how to create and organise your brush sets
  • Learn how to find and download digital brushes, stamps, and papers
  • Acquire advanced mark-making techniques

Session 2: Traditional Painting Techniques in a Digital Setting

  • Learn the stages to create digital gouache and watercolour painting techniques that go beyond basic brushwork
  • Understand the concept of colour blocking
  • The Reference Window
  • Introduction to the Feather tool
  • Emulate a lino cutting effect

Session 3: Advanced Colour Features

  • Use the Colour Balance and Curves tools to adjust colours
  • Explore the Gradient Map's design and colour features
  • Use the pencil selection options
  • Master the art of removing backgrounds from imported images to add a single colour background

Session 4: The Text Tool and Specialised Tools for Specific Purposes

  • Explore the Text Tools in Procreate
  • Creating custom margins
  • Learn how to invert text and shapes
  • Discover methods to create artwork with a transparent background for example for watermarks or clip art
  • Create 3D text and explore different ways to enhance text
  • The Perspective Grid

This course is for anyone who has attended our Learn Procreate Course for Beginners, or with relevant experience using Procreate.

What to bring to class

  • The student will need to bring an iPad and an Apple pencil. See the list below for compatible iPads.
  • Students must download the Procreate app (the approximate price of app-only is $14.99 AUD available from the App Store).
  • Please make sure all devices are fully charged and you also bring a charger to class.
  • A pen and notepad for taking notes.
  • Students will be given key brush sets they are advised to purchase should they wish to get the most out of the course but your tutor will be providing alternative methods of achieving the results using the Procreate default tools.
