This course is designed to teach dog owners how to enjoy their dog more by way of simple positive reward training. Within a short period of time, owners will see a huge positive difference in their dog, not only as you begin to understand your dog more but also as they learn to interpret what you want from them. If you can't understand why your dog does not listen, this course will provide you with the knowledge and techniques to train your dog the easy way.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this dog training course, you should be able to:

  • Understand how to use positive reinforcement to get your dog's attention even in distracting environments such as busy streets or crowded parks.
  • Develop skills in using voice, body language, and treats to communicate effectively with your dog and maintain their focus.
  • Gain an understanding of the importance of timing and consistency when training your dog.
  • Understand how to use positive reinforcement to train your dog's recall response and have them come back to you reliably when off-leash in a park.
  • Identify the causes of your dog's barking behaviour and develop strategies to address it effectively while reinforcing quiet behaviour.

Course content

What will be covered in this dog training course?

Lesson 1 - indoors (or outdoors) - take notes without dog.

  • Knowing the needs of your dog and their individual traits that make them interested in learning, as well as naming your own requirements and expectations of your dog. 
  • Getting your dog to listen to you and pay you attention no matter the distraction. 
  • What does "positive reinforcement" mean? When to use treats and when not to.

Lesson 2 - outdoors with dog (byo treats)

  • Learning the Sit and Down commands.
  • Come/here - Coming back while off leash when called in the park.

Lesson 3 - outdoors with dog (byo treats)

  • Leave it - teach your dog to not touch/eat/chase something.   
  • Teaching your dog to stop barking on command.

Lesson 4 - outdoors with dog (byo treats)

  • Wait/OK - teach your dog to never cross a road without your OK.
  • Walking calmly on leash.
