What will be covered in this Procreate course?

Session 1: Repeating Pattern fundamentals

• Introduction to different design pattern repeat styles both historical and contemporary.
• How to generate design motifs, colours and ideas from a theme.
• Create a colour palette for your designs.
• Create a design motif in Procreate and put into a full-drop repeat.
• Testing your repeat for barring
• How to develop a colour palette for a design.

Session 2: Creating Full Drop Repeats in Procreate using templates.

• How to create a full-drop template.
• Put your own motif into a full-drop repeat using custom actions.
• Test your pattern repeats.

Session 3: Creating half-drop designs in Procreate

• Creating a pattern template for a half-drop repeat in Procreate.
• Put your own motif into a half-drop repeat.
• Testing your repeat for barring.
• Understanding the benefits of designing in half-drop repeats.
• Ways to make a half-drop repeat have very different styles.

Session 4:  Creating straight, diagonal and organic stripes in Procreate and introduction to ways to enhance designs to build cohesive collection.

• Create pattern templates for a variety of stripes in Procreate
• Create your own stripes
• Add a texture or additional pattern to your stripe designs.
• Testing out the repeat for barring.
• Explore ways to create a balanced pattern collection
• Saving the Procreate artwork in a format to print on fabric or paper.

This course is for anyone who has attended our Digital Art for Beginners Course: Procreate or anyone with relevant experience using Procreate who wants to put their designs into seamless repeats in Procreate.

What to bring to class:

• An iPad and an Apple pencil. See the list below for compatible iPads.
• Students must download the Procreate app (the approximate price of app-only is $14.99 AUD available from the App Store).
• Please make sure all devices are fully charged and you also bring a charger to class.
• A sketchbook and pencil to draw initial ideas.
• A pen and notepad for taking notes.
• Photographs on the IPAD of inspiration for designs/colours .
